In Italien ist das Unternehmertum von der Lebenskunst und der Kultur geprägt, und diese Haltung entspricht meinen Werten. Wo und wann sind Sie rossin begegnet und wie hat die Zusammenarbeit begonnen? Ich hatte die Gelegenheit, Klaus Pomella vor fast fünfundzwanzig Jahren kennen zu lernen, als er für einen Designhersteller arbeitete. Klaus ist sehr professionell und hat Sinn für Humor und Selbstironie. Das gefiel mir auf Anhieb. Wie entstand das Modell stampede? Ich hatte diese Idee, als ich auf der Orgatec in Köln auf einem statischen pilzförmigen Sitzkissen saß. Nach zehn Minuten hat mich mein Rücken schon umgebracht! Die Idee hinter stampede ist nicht so sehr, dass er schaukelt, sondern dass man seine Position variieren kann, und zwar auf spontane Weise. Es gibt ein Sprichwort, das besagt: “Die beste Sitzposition – die nächste...”. Mit anderen Worten: Wir müssen uns bewegen! Wie war Ihr Werdegang und wie wurden Sie zum Industrie-Designer? Nach meiner Ausbildung zum Fotografen, habe ich Grafik studiert und mich dem Möbelbau zugewandt. Mich hat die Welt der Möbel schon immer fasziniert. Als CEO eines Unternehmens für modulare Ausstellungssysteme, habe ich die wirtschaftlichen Aspekte einer Produktion besser verstehen gelernt. Heute ein großer Vorteil in meiner Tätigkeit als Industriedesigner. Schließlich bin ich zu meiner ersten Liebe zurückgekehrt – dem Design von Möbeln und Produkten. Wie sieht Ihre Tätigkeit als Professor an der Fakultät für Industriedesign der Universität Montréal aus? Mir gefällt der Kontakt mit jungen Menschen. Die Welt verändert sich schnell, Technologien entwickeln sich in rasantem Tempo. Es ist mir sehr wichtig meine Studenten auf die reale Berufswelt vorzubereiten. Was schließlich zeitlos bleibt, ist die Neugierde. Ohne Neugier gibt es keine Idee, keine Kreation, keine guten Designer. Dies ist die grundlegende Botschaft, die ich zu vermitteln versuche. What do you like about working with rossin? Meeting people and exchanging ideas is for me the most powerful driving factor. In Italy, the approach to entrepreneurship is influenced by the art of living and culture and this attitude is in line with my values. Where and when did you meet rossin and started working for them? I had the opportunity to meet Klaus Pomella almost twenty-five years ago when he was working for a design-manufacturer. Klaus showed himself to be very professional with a teasing sense of humour and self-mockery. I liked him straight away. How did you come to model stampede? I had this idea while sitting on a static mushroom-shaped pouf at a lecture during the Orgatec fair in Cologne. After ten minutes my back was already killing me! The idea behind stampede is not so much that it rocks, but that you can vary its position in a spontaneous way. There’s a kind of proverb that says: “the best sitting position – the next one...”. In other words, we need to move! Could you tell us about your background and how did you become an Industrial Designer? I graduated as a photographer, then went on to graphic arts and then to cabinetmaking. As CEO of a company for almost ten years, I was able to integrate and better understand the realities of production and business. This is now a very strong asset in my design practice. Finally, I have returned to my first love – the design of furniture and products for the habitat. What about your career as Professor at the School of industrial design in the University of Montréal? I love the contact with young people. The world is changing fast, technologies are developing at lightning speed. I emphasise, among other things, the preparation of my students for the real world of design practice. Finally, what remains timeless is curiosity. Without curiosity, there is no idea, no creation, no good designers.
